Bangladesh shatters record again as 101 deaths reported in 24 hours

The country witnessed a record high death with one hundred and one people from Covid-19 in 24 hours (till 8am Friday), according to a press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

For the first time single-day death toll hits triple digits in the country, total deaths now stand at 10,182

This was the fifth time in the last seven days that the country broke its record for most Covid-19 deaths in a day.

The total number of deaths has now reached 10,182 and the death rate stands at 1.43 percent.

At least 4,417 new infections were recorded in the meantime, taking the total number of people infected to 7,11,779, added the release.

The current positivity rate is 23.36 percent while the total positivity rate stands at 13.86 percent.

A total of 18,906 samples were tested across the country in 24 hours (till 8am Friday).

At least 5,694 Covid-19 patients have recovered during the period.

The total number of recoveries now stands at 6,02,908 and the recovery rate at 84.7 percent.

Among the 101 deceased, 67 were men and 34 were women. Of them, seven were within 31-40 years old; eight between 41-50; 23 within 51-60; and 63 were above 60 years old, added the release.

Of the victims, 94 died at different hospitals and seven at home.

Currently, 17,501 people are in isolation and 50,499 are quarantined.

Till Friday afternoon, a total of 5.6 million people had received the first dose and 930,151 people the second dose of the Covid-19 vaccine.

On March 8, health authorities in Bangladesh reported the first three cases of Covid-19, a severe acute respiratory illness caused by a new coronavirus named Sars-CoV-2.

The novel coronavirus broke out in China's Wuhan city in late December, 2019 and quickly spread throughout the world, becoming a pandemic in less than three months.

The fast spreading coronavirus had claimed 3,002,313 lives and infected 139,809,244 people across the world till Friday afternoon, according to Worldometer.

As many as 118,836,233 people have recovered from Covid-19, which has spread to 219 countries and territories across the planet.
