Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has reiterated her interest in importing hydropower from Bhutan through India.
When Bhutanese Prime Minister Dasho Tshering Tobagy came to pay a courtesy call at Sheikh Hasina's residence in India on Sunday (June 9), he expressed his interest.
Sheikh Hasina told the Bhutanese Prime Minister that a tripartite agreement is needed for the export of electricity from Bhutan through Indian territory and the matter has already been brought to the notice of India.
He said, during the courtesy meeting, the entire bilateral relations between the two countries came up for discussion. Both countries reiterated their commitment to enhance existing multilateral relations.
The Prime Minister of Bhutan thanked the Prime Minister of Bangladesh for building a burn unit in his country and providing essential medicines for one year. He praised the development of Bangladesh under the dynamic leadership of Sheikh Hasina.
Sheikh Hasina said Bhutan occupies a special place in the heart of Bangladesh. Because Bhutan first recognized Bangladesh as an independent country after the 1971 liberation war. We are ready to provide all kind of assistance to Bhutan.
The Prime Minister stressed on the proper use of the space allotted to India in the Special Economic Zone at Kurigram and hoped that Bhutan would develop industries there. Prime Minister asked for Bhutanese investment in Bangladesh.
