Bangladesh has again become the Chair of the D-8 Organization for Economic Cooperation after it played the role for two years during the period of 1999-2001.  The previous Chair was Turkey. With the theme “Partnership for a Transformative World: Harnessing the Power of Youth and Technology”, the 10th D-8 summit was held online Wednesday. Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen addressed the meeting, said a press release.

The theme of the summit has been decided keeping in mind that the youth of D-8 Member States would be fully prepared to reap benefits from the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) and shall be equipped sufficiently to cope with the ever-changing world of information and communication technology.

Keeping consistency with the theme, the foreign minister stated that Bangladesh prioritises technical and vocational education to provide greater access to skills to its large and potential young population.

Bangladesh has become a popular destination for foreign students who want to pursue higher studies, including technical studies, he added.

He said D-8 requires to take leadership in this particular area to ensure job creation while equipping the youth with the right skills.

Stating the initiatives Bangladesh has taken from the very beginning of the pandemic, the minister urged that the D-8 Member States need to work together more than ever by creating a D-8 digital marketplace, and create a suitable-for-all resilient post-pandemic cooperation model to ensure the common interests of all member states.

Momen expressed happiness to get the opportunity of chairmanship while celebrating the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the Golden Jubilee of independence.
