The birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and National Children’s Day has been celebrated through a two-day program with great enthusiasm and a lively atmosphere. Children and teenagers spontaneously participated in the embassy program.
A lockdown and night curfew has been in place in all major Brazilian cities, including Brasilia, since midnight on February 26. All public gatherings have also been banned. Under the circumstances, Bangabandhu's birthday was celebrated to a limited extent.
In the first part of the main program which started at 5 pm on March 17 at the embassy premises, Bangladeshi children painted about Bangladesh and Bangabandhu. Besides, children and teenagers also took part in the essay competition organized on Bangabandhu. At the beginning of the second part of the program, Charge of the Affairs Samia Israt Rony along with the children and teenagers present on the occasion laid a wreath at the portrait of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. After the recitation from the Holy Quran, special prayers were offered for Bangabandhu, all the martyrs of the War of Liberation, all the martyrs of the Bangabandhu family killed in the brutal massacre on 15 August, forgiveness of the souls of all who sacrificed their lives for democracy including the great language movement. The speeches of the President, Prime Minister, Foreign Minister and State Minister for Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh were read out highlighting the significance of the day. Then several videos made about Bangabandhu were shown. The audience enjoyed the video images with fascination.
Embassy officials spontaneously participated in the discussion session highlighting the significance of the day. The speakers described the background of the great war of independence and gratefully remembered Bangabandhu for gifting an independent-sovereign country.
In her concluding remarks, Charge the Affaires Samia Israt Rony recalled with deep respect the working life of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
In the last part of the program, Charge the Affairs cut Bangabandhu's birthday cake with the children. Prizes were then distributed among all the children who took part in the drawing session.
The national flag was hoisted at the embassy premises at 10 am on March 17 and multiple portraits of Bangabandhu were displayed. The embassy is hopeful that if the Covid-19 situation improves, Bangabandhu's birth centenary celebrations will be held in a larger and more stylish environment.
