Apart from the 11 parties of the Awami League-led coalition, the remaining defendants are the Law Secretary, Home Secretary, Election Commission and Inspector General of Police.
Earlier, Bangladesh Awami League was petitioned in the High Court for banning and canceling the party's registration due to the indiscriminate killing of students during the quota reform movement.
The High Court bench of Justice AKM Asaduzzaman and Justice Muhammad Mahbub-ul Islam dismissed the writ filed by Arifur Rahman Murad Bhuiyar on behalf of the human rights organization Sarda Society.
At the hearing of the writ, the Attorney General. Asaduzzaman said that the interim government has no intention to ban or cancel the registration of any political party. This government believes in the freedom of organization and political parties that is enshrined in the constitution. And the injustice of those involved with the previous authoritarian government will be tried through the courts of law. It is not appropriate to ban any political party for that.
