The Ramadan moon was spotted across Bangladesh on Saturday evening, March 1, marking the start of the holy month on Sunday, March 2.
Devout Muslims will begin fasting with Sehri in the early hours, offer Tarawih prayers alongside Isha on Saturday night, and observe Shab-e-Qadr on March 27.
Religious Affairs Adviser Dr AFM Khalid Hossain confirmed the sightings. “We’ve received reports from various parts of the country,” he said.
The National Moon Sighting Committee, chaired by Dr Hossain, convened after Maghrib at the Islamic Foundation’s meeting room in Baitul Mukarram National Mosque to finalise the announcement.
