A murder case has been filed against 34 people including former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Education Minister Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury Nowfel in connection with the death of college student Tanveer Siddiqui (19) during the anti-discrimination student movement in Chattogram's Bahaddarhat area. Also, 40 to 50 others have been named as accused.
On Friday (August 16) night, the student's uncle Mohammad Parvez, filed the case at the city's Chandgaon police station.
In the statement of the case, the plaintiff mentioned that his nephew Tanveer Siddiqui participated in the 'shut-down' program with other students under the banner of the anti-discrimination student movement on July 18 around 2.30 pm.
The students marched from the Muradpur area of the Panchlaish police station and stood peacefully on the road in front of the Bahaddarhat raw market of Chandgaon police station.
At 4:20 pm, on the pre-planned orders of the former Prime Minister and Education Minister, 40-50 unidentified persons along with the remaining accused came from the direction of the WAPDA office with deadly firearms including weapons, and started throwing bricks and stones at Tanveer Siddiqui and other students. Many protesters including Tanveer were shot and injured. When Tanveer was taken to Chattogram Medical College Hospital, doctors declared him dead.
