Indian authorities arrested seven individuals, suspended three policemen, and 'closed' a deputy superintendent of police (DSP) following a security breach at the Bangladesh Assistant High Commission in Agartala, Tripura.
Kiran Kumar K, superintendent of police (SP) of West Tripura, confirmed the action against police personnel.
"Three sub-inspectors have been suspended, and a DSP has been 'closed' and shifted to the police headquarters, for alleged negligence of duty," he said.
A suo motu case was registered at the New Capital Complex (NCC) police station, and seven individuals have been arrested for their alleged involvement in the incident, he added.
The incident occurred during a protest by members of the Hindu Sangharsh Samity yesterday.
Protesters, demonstrating against the arrest of ex-ISKCON leader Chinmoy Krishna Das and alleged attacks on minorities in Bangladesh, reportedly forced their way into the diplomatic mission.
Security measures at the mission have been significantly enhanced, with paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and Tripura State Rifles (TSR) personnel now deployed to ensure the safety of the premises, the SP said.
Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha condemned the breach, emphasising the importance of lawful protests.
"During the protest rally, a group of youth tried to barge into the Assistant High Commission office of Bangladesh in Agartala. I condemned the incident. Peaceful protest can be allowed but such behaviour is not acceptable," he said in a Facebook post.
Police have launched a full investigation into the breach and assured that strict action will be taken as per the law.
Meanwhile, the Delhi police have heightened security around the Bangladesh High Commission in the Chanakyapuri diplomatic enclave in New Delhi following an attack on the Bangladesh diplomatic mission in Agartala.
"Security has been increased, and additional police personnel have been deployed around the high commission. We are also ensuring that no gatherings take place near its premises," said a deputy commissioner of police.
The move came as the winter session of the Indian Parliament is underway. The central part of Delhi is currently under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), which prohibits the assembly of five or more people, the DC added.
