60pc Covid deaths in Dhaka alone


95 more deaths 4,280 new cases

More than 60 per cent Covid deaths in the country reported in Dhaka division alone. Since the beginning of the pandemic, Bangladesh logged a total of 10,683 deaths. Of them, 6,237 people have died in the division. Rest, 4446 (40pc) were recorded in the other seven divisions.

1,926 in Chattogram, 655 in Khulna, 565 in Rajshahi, 404 in Rangpur, 355 in Sylhet, 317 in Barisal and 224 in Mymensingh.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh has registered 95 more deaths from Covid-19 in the 24 hours to Wednesday morning. The country also logged a total of 732,060 coronavirus cases with 4,280 people testing positive over the same period.

Of the 95 deceased – 59 men and 36 women – 58 were from Dhaka division; 17 from Chattogram; Eight from Rajshahi; three each from Khulna, Sylhet, and Rangpur, two from Barisal; and one from Mymensingh division.

Of them, 60 patients died in government hospitals, 31 in private hospitals, and four at home.

So far, 7,886 men (73.82pc) and 2,797 women (26.18pc) have died from Covid-19 across the country. The mortality rate against the total number of cases detected so far stands at 1.46pc.

This is the second day in a row when the country recorded below 100 deaths after seeing a huge spike in the past week. The seven-day moving average of daily deaths in the country stood at 99.43 which was lower than Tuesday.

The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) revealed the latest figures on Covid-19 in the country with a press release on the day.

 Meanwhile, the health authorities said 7,072 people recovered from the disease over the preceding 24 hours.

So far, 635,183 patients – 86.77pc – have made full recovery across the country.

As many as 28,408 samples, including the pending ones, were tested in the 335 authorized labs -- government and private -- across the country.

The latest figures show an infection rate of 15.07pc. The overall infection rate of the country stands at 13.94pc.

Currently, 18,990 people are in isolation and 52,461 are quarantined.

On Wednesday, another 15,938 people got the first dose, taking the total number of first doses to 5,745,085. While 170,902 got the second dose during the same time, taking the total vaccinated to 1,678,189.

On March 8, health authorities in Bangladesh reported the first three cases of Covid-19, a severe acute respiratory illness caused by a new coronavirus strain which was later named Sars-CoV-2.

The novel coronavirus broke out in China's Wuhan city in late December, 2019 and quickly spread throughout the world, becoming a pandemic in less than three months.

The fast spreading coronavirus has claimed 3,060,928 lives and infected 143,673,350 people across the world till Wednesday afternoon, according to Worldometer.

As many as 122,048,479 people have recovered from Covid-19 which has spread to 219 countries and territories across the planet.
