Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC) has decided to operate 60 more double-deckers on the city streets to mitigate the crisis of public transports during the Covid-19 situation.
The government has issued 18-point directives in the wake of growing coronavirus cases. As per the directives, public transports should ply at half capacity with fares raised by 60 percent that causes immense sufferings to the commuters.
Under the circumstances, the BRTC has decided to operate 60 double-deckers in the city to ease the crisis. The buses will be pressed into services on Sunday. Busiest routes will have to be given most importance.
Talking to media, BRTC Chairman Md Tajul Islam said, "We'll operate 60 double-deckers in the capital from Sunday to mitigate the sufferings of passengers. Thirty-five have already been pressed into services."
If the 60 double-deckers will start plying in full phase, transport crisis will ease to some extent, he added.
