10 lakh jobs in IT sector this year

Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal has said that some10 lakh jobs will be created in the country's IT sector in 2021 to achieve the goal of 'Digital Bangladesh'. With this, the overall employment in the sector will reach 20 lakh, he said while placing the proposed national budget for fiscal 2021-22 in parliamen.

The Finance Minister said the ongoing 4th Industrial Revolution has opened up the door to create unprecedented new employment opportunities for skilled manpower both at home and abroad. Besides, the implementation of Sustainable Development Goals, Vision 2041, and Delta Plan 2100 has created huge employment opportunities in the country for people skilled in science and technical knowledge.

"Thanks to the right policies and fruitful action plans of the government, a large section of the youth of Bangladesh is already enjoying the benefits of such modern and technology dependent employment," he said.

Kamal said more than 50 per cent of the country's population is young, whereas it is not more than 20-25 per cent in the developed world.

"More than 20 lakh people are entering our labour market every year. This means we need to create employment opportunities for the new entrants," he said.
