Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan, who missed the second Test against West Indies due to a thigh injury, said that defeat is also part of any sport and he is not at all worried about that. The all-rounder, who was granted leave to join his expecting wife in the USA, spoke virtually from his transit in Dubai in a programme organised by his fans.

“Today I thought that I would not speak about cricket. But still... I have to. Defeat is not expected. But not only in cricket but in every sport, win and lose are the two sides of the coin. So nothing to get worried about that”, he told the viewers. Test Captain Mominul Haque said after the second Test against West Indies that Bangladesh had not made much progress in longer version cricket in 20 years.

But Shakib did not agree with that remark. “We have not made any progress, things are not like that. We made progress in every aspect”, he added. Bangladesh lost the two-Test series against an under strength West Indies side 2-0, triggering a wave of criticism. The Caribbeans came from behind to race to a three-wicket win in the first Test in Chattogram before eking out a 17-run win in the second Test in Dhaka. Shakib played the part of the first Test before injury ruled him out of the second Test.
