The report revealed that at least 8,543 people were killed and 12,608 injured in 6,359 road crashes across the country in 2024.

This represents a 1.54 percent increase in crashes, a 7.50 percent rise in deaths, and a 17.73 percent surge in injuries compared to 2023.

Motorcycle accidents accounted for 36.62 percent of total crashes, resulting in 2,570 deaths and 3,151 injuries in 2,329 incidents.

These crashes contributed to 30.08 percent of the fatalities and 24.99 percent of the injuries reported last year.

The data was disclosed by the organisation's secretary general, Md Mozammel Hoque Chowdhury, during a press conference at Dhaka Reporters Unity in Segunbagicha.

The annual report was compiled based on media reports, the Samity said.
