Zia to be remembered as long country remains

The country achieved its independence through the war. Who fought? Ziaur Rahman. So, as long as the country lasts, Ziaur Rahman will be remembered, BNP Standing Committee member Gayeshwar Chandra Roy said.

He made the comment while addressing a programme at National Press Club in the capital on Friday. ‘Democracy Restoration Struggle Council’ arranged the programme at noon.

Gayeshwar said, “The Awami League is for the Awami League, not for the people. They cannot be defined as human beings. This Awami League will do well, that cannot be expected.”

Habibur Rahman Habib, the advisor to the BNP chairperson, said, “Awami League is a party of ungrateful people. Today, the names of the founders of the Awami League are not mentioned. The history has been distorted in such a way that everything seemed to be done by one person.”

Habib further said, ‘Ziaur Rahman was the first to open fire ay Pakistani force in the Liberation war. Today, on the golden jubilee of independence, an evil attempt is going on to snatch the gallantry title of Ziaur Rahman.”

The programme was chaired by ‘Democracy Restoration Struggle Council’ president Shahedul Islam Loren where Jatiyatabadi Ulema Dal central leader Maulana Rafiqul Islam and Jatiyatabadi Samajik Sangskritik Sangstha leader Arifur Rahman Mollah, among others, spoke.
