Withdrawal of the writ regarding the activities of 11 parties including A-League-Japa


The writs seeking cancellation of the three national elections during the Awami League era, and not allowing 11 political parties including Awami League and Jatiya Party (Ershad) to carry out activities, have been withdrawn.

On Tuesday (October 28), lawyer Ahsanul Karim informed the bench comprising Justice Fatema Najib and Justice Shikder Mahmudur Razi of the High Court. The lawyer said that the coordinators said that two writs filed to prevent 11 parties including Awami League from participating in political activities and future elections will not be executed.

Earlier on Monday (October 28) in the relevant branch of the High Court, coordinator of anti-discrimination student movement, Hasnat Abdullah, general secretary of Juli Shaheed Smriti Foundation Sarjis Alam and Md. Supreme Court lawyer Aminul Haque filed two writs on behalf of Hasibul Islam. Lawyer Ahsanul Karim told reporters that Sergis Alam and Hasnat will not run the writ today.

In this regard, the writ has been requested to issue instructions to the Legislative Secretary, Home Secretary, Election Commission and Inspector General of Police. Besides, they also filed another writ regarding the validity of the 10th National Assembly elections held on January 5, 2014, the 11th National Assembly elections held on December 30, 2018 and the 12th National Assembly elections in 2024.

In a writ, it was requested to issue a rule as to why the ban on all kinds of political activities of 11 parties, including Awami League, should not be given for indiscriminate killing of people, destruction of democratic institutions, unconstitutional usurpation of state power through illegal process.

At the same time, in addition to banning all kinds of political activities of 11 parties, the petition also requested to issue a rule on why the parties should not be instructed to prevent them from participating in all kinds of elections in the future.

In another writ, a ruling was requested as to why the 10th, 11th and 12th National Parliament elections held under Awami League should not be invalid and out of legal authority, why the gazette issued after those three elections should not be cancelled.

In the writ, it is also requested to issue a rule as to why there will not be an order to cancel the privileges given to the members of parliament in those three elections, including the allotment of plots, duty free car importation and custom benefits.
