Vishnu fetish was found during the excavation of the government pond
A 38 kg idol of Vishnu has been found in Kawathenga Tankuri area of Karjagram in Naogaon's Raninagar upazila. Locals rescued the statue from a government pond in the area on Tuesday evening. Later in the night, the villagers handed over the idol to the Raninagar police.
According to local residents and police sources, under a project, the Barind Multipurpose Development Authority is excavating a government pond at Kawathenga Tankuri village in Kaligram union of the upazila. After the excavation work at around 5 pm yesterday, the workers left with the excavator. In the evening, some villagers go to see the dug pond. There they saw the black idol of Vishnu on the ground left on the bank of the pond. Upon hearing this news, more people of the village gathered there. Police were later informed. After receiving the news, a team of Raninagar police arrived at the spot at night and handed over the idol to the villagers.
Raninagar Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shahin Akand said the idol weighed 38 kg. The statue is black. However, it could not be confirmed whether it was a stone statue or not. The statue will be handed over to the Archaeological Department.
