Two madrasa teachers killed in Natore road accident

Two madrasa teachers were killed and another injured when a truck hit the motorcycle carrying the trio in Singra upazila of Natore. The accident took place at the Singra Ferry Ghat area of the Natore-Bogra Highway at around 8am on Saturday.

The deceased have been identified as Khalilur Rahman and Belal Hossain, teachers of Tebaria Halimatus Sadia Madrasa in Natore. The injured Abdul Hamid, is also a teacher of the same madrasa.

Singra police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Nur-e-Alam Siddiqui said: “The three madrasa teachers were on their way to Bogra from Natore on a motorcycle. On the way, a truck rear-ended the motorcycle on the east side of Singra Bridge adjacent to the old ferry ghat and fled the scene.”

Khalilur Rahman and Belal Hossain died on the spot, he added.

“The injured Abdul Hamid was admitted to Singra Upazila Health Complex, while the bodies of the duo were taken to the police station,” the OC said.

In a separated incident, a covered van driver’s assistant died after being hit by a car while he was fleeing from the lockdown enforcement committee at Baneshwar Bazar of Rajshahi’s Puthia upazila the night before.

The deceased was identified as Abdul Latif, 55, son of Abdur Rahim of Idalpur village in Noakhali's Senbag upazila.

The incident took place around 8:30 pm on Friday when deceased Abdul Latif stopped by a tea stall Dhaka-Rajshahi Highway, said Lutfar Rahman, in charge of Shibpur outpost under Paba highway police.

At that time, a mobile court team was enforcing the lockdown restrictions in the area, he added. When the team chased to disperse the crowd to reinforce the lockdown, Latif ran out on the highway and hit by the car, police said quoting witnesses.

Rescued in a critical condition, he was taken to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead. Meanwhile, soon after the incident, police seized the car owned by local BNP leader Mizanur Rahman Mizan.

"I was going to Puthia. While we were crossing Baneshwar Bazaar, a man suddenly came running and collided with the car."

He, however, claimed his driver had no fault.
