Tiger captain’s tribute on Bangabandhu’s centenary birthday
The Bangladesh cricket team is now in New Zealand to play three
ODIs and T20 matches. From there, Tigers ODI captain Tamim Iqbal paid homage to
Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the father of the nation, the best Bengali
of the millennium.
In a video message provided by the BCB, Tamim said, "I
respectfully remember Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on his birth centenary
(actually his 101st birthday. However, on the occasion of his birth
centenary)."
Tamim further said, ‘He (Bangabandhu) dreamed that Bangladesh
would one day be known all over the world through sports. On this special day,
we wish all the best to all the athletes in Bangladesh. '
Besides, Tamim Iqbal wrote on his Facebook page, ‘A humble
tribute to the birthday of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur
Rahman. Let the sacrifice of the father of the nation be the inspiration for
the new generation. '
Though not in the country due to family reasons, Shakib Al
Hasan, the world's best all-rounder of the Bangladesh national cricket team,
also paid homage to Bangabandhu's birthday. He thinks that today's Bangladesh
stands on the basis of Bangabandhu's goals and plans.
Shakib wrote, ‘Bangladesh is standing on your shoulders. No
matter what, we are always eager to give our best. Your far-reaching thoughts
inspire us to move forward. Your goal was to uphold the dignity of our country
and flag, which is our goal today.’ On the 101st birthday of Father of the
Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, there was a humble tribute.
