The new president of the Olympic Association is Army Chief Waqar-uz-Zaman
Election tomorrow in Buff. Bangladesh Olympic Association, one of the country's top sports bodies, was holding the election process for the vacant post of president. Army Chief General Waqar-uz-Zaman submitted nominations for the post of President.
The Election Commission today declared General Waqar-uz-Zaman officially elected unopposed as multiple nomination papers were not filed against the post and only one nomination paper was valid. He is also the president of Bangladesh Federation.
The army chief has been serving as the president of Bangladesh Olympic Association through the selected process. In that sequence, the current army chief General Waqar-uz-Zaman became the BOA president.
General SM Shafiuddin Ahmed resigned as the president of the Olympics after his retirement as army chief. BOA took the initiative to elect that vacant post. National Sports Council Secretary Aminul Islam performed the duty of Election Commissioner.
There were 71 councilors in the draft voter list for the BOA president election. National Sports Council, Ministry has exempted many federation officials. Excluding those persons in the draft voter list, the number of councilors in the final voter list is 52. BOA newly-elected president is a councilor of Bangladesh Golf Federation.
