Tangail road crashes kill 5, injure 7
Five people were killed and seven people injured in three separate road accidents on the Dhaka-Tangail highway in the early hours of Wednesday.
Three people died when a covered van rammed into a microbus near the Pakullah bus stand area of the highway in Mirzapur upazila, Gorai Highway Police Officer-in-Charge Muzzafar Hossain said while confirming the matter to the media.
The deceased have been identified as Hasan, 30, the driver of the microbus, his assistant Emon, 25, and passenger Golam Maula Shamim, 28. Another person also sustained injuries from the crash.
“After spending his Eid holiday, Shamim rented a microbus to return to Brahmanbaria with his wife Meem. On the way, a Dhaka-bound covered van rammed into the vehicle when it reached the Pakullah bus stand on the highway. The driver, helper and Shamim died on the spot. The injured Meem was rescued and sent to Kumudini Hospital for treatment,” OC Muzzafar said.
He also confirmed that the respective microbus and covered van were now in police custody and legal action will be taken in this regard.
One person was killed and four others injured when two three-wheelers collided head-on near Akashpur by-pass area of the Dhaka-Tangail highway.
The deceased was identified as Khandaker Afzal Hussain, 38. The injured have been sent to Tangail General Hospital for treatment.
In another incident, a motorcyclist was killed after being crushed under the wheels of a truck at Hamidpur area of Ghatail upazila.
Meanwhile, two people sustained severe injuries when a mini truck lost control on the highway at Kortial Haat area and fell into a roadside ditch.
The injured have been sent to Tangail General Hospital for treatment.
