Taijul explains reason why Bangladesh didn’t take review
The efficiency of using the review of Bangladesh team in the Tests has been repeatedly questioned, as in the Sri Lanka-Bangladesh first Test. Bangladesh didn’t get a sure wicket on the third day of the Kandy Test due to the poor use of review. At the end of the day’s play, spinner Taijul Islam said the reason for not taking the review.
In the second ball of the 34th over of Sri Lanka’s first innings, Taijul bowled a bowl outside the off stump but it took a turn and went inside. Lahiru Thirimanne, who was unbeaten on 58, did not understand the movement of the ball, hitting the ball on his pad. Even Taijul himself could not understand the movement of the ball. Seeing such an incredible turn, he couldn’t even think that even if the umpire rejected LBW’s appeal, it was a sure wicket if he took the review.
“I got hesitate at that moment because the turn was very big,” he said. “If the review was unsuccessful at that time, there could be a problem. And as the turn was big, it seemed that it would not touch the wicket, so we didn’t take the review.”
However, the left-arm spinner got a wicket later. Apart from Taijul, Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Taskin Ahmed took one wicket each for Bangladesh. Taijul praised Taskin, who returned to the Test side after a long time.
“He bowled well. He created threat in bowling maintaining line-length. I hope he can give this effort tomorrow as well. This effort will be very good for our team,” Taijul added.
Meanwhile, Taijul also spoke about the benefits of playing with three fast bowlers and two spinners – a total of five bowlers. He said, “It is better to have more bowlers to play Tests. The conditions here are very hot. In this case, having five bowlers is an advantage for me or other bowlers. We can get time to take rest and also get some time to comeback.”
