Suicide bomber kills 20 in Somalia
At least 30 people were injured in the attack on Friday; Reuter’s news agency quoted an emergency services official as saying. Witnesses and Somali state-owned media reported that the area was covered in smoke shortly after the car bomb exploded.
"So far we have recovered 20 bodies and 30 injured people from the blast site," said Dr. Amin, founder of the ambulance service. Abdul Qadir Aden. The car bomb had exploded outside a Lul Yemeni restaurant near the port, witnesses said.
"A speeding car exploded at a Lul Yemeni restaurant. I was on my way to the restaurant, but when the blast shook everything and the surroundings were covered in smoke, I came back,”said Ahmed Abdullahi, who lives near the scene. The car bombing also caused extensive damage to property and police cordoned off the area, according to Somalia's state-run Radio Mogadishu.
No one has claimed responsibility for the attack. The militant group al-Shabab has carried out frequent car bombings in and around Somalia to overthrow the governments of countries known as the "Horn of Africa". They are also initially suspected of carrying out Friday's attack.
