Sudden rain brings respite in city life
The city dwellers got a huge respite from the searing heat, which was sweeping across the capital for the last couple of days, with the start of rainfall on Saturday.
A gusty wind sweeps across Mirpur, Gabtoli, Mohammadpur, Old Dhaka, and Uttara areas this afternoon. Meanwhile, moderate to light rainfall occur at many places in Dhaka.
Meanwhile, the first northwestern (Kalbaishakhi) of the year has hit six districts of the country yesterday. In Dhaka, Narayanganj, Munshiganj, Gazipur, Madaripur and Barisal, the wind was blowing at a speed of 20-30 kmph with rain. There was a dust storm with the wind before the rain started, Meteorologist Bazlur Rashid of Bangladesh Metrological Department (BMD) said.
He said that northwestern first hit Savar. Then it reached Dhaka. The sky turned dark around 4:30 in the afternoon. The wind covered all around with a sheet of dust.
Earlier on the day, BMD in the morning predicted rain or thundershowers at one or two places over four divisions including Dhaka of the country in the next 24 hours commencing at 9:00 am yesterday.
“Rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty or squally wind are likely to occur at one or two places over Rangpur, Rajshahi, Dhaka, Khulna, and Sylhet divisions. The weather may remain dry elsewhere over the country,” said a Met Office release issued on the morning.
Besides, day temperature may fall slightly and night temperature may remain nearly unchanged over the country, the release added.
