Stocks post moderate gains


Stocks posted moderate gains on Tuesday as optimistic investors showed their appetite on sector-wise issues creating a high demand for the securities.

Following the previous day’s positive ending, the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) ended on a positive note amid rising trading activities.

DSEX, the prime index of the DSE, went up by 81.44 points or 1.50 percent to stand 5,508 points.

The DS30 index, comprising blue chips, also rose 38.75 points to reach 2108 and the Shariah Index (DSES) gained 16.66 points to stand 1,245 points.

Turnover, another important indicator of the market, stood at Tk 8.33 billion.

Of the issues traded, 233 advanced, 42 declined and 84 remained unchanged.

BATBC was the most traded stock with shares worth Tk 1,047 million changing hands, followed by Beximco, Beximco Pharma, Robi, and LankaBangla Finance.

The port city’s bourse – the Chittagong Stock Exchange – (CSE) ended higher with CSE All Share Price Index- CASPI- soaring 329 points to stand at 16016.

Of the issues traded, 168 gained, 27 declined, and 45 issues remained unchanged with Tk 334 million in turnover.
