Soumen under special surveillance
Former Sub-Inspector of Police (ASI) Soumen Roy, who is accused of killing three people fell ill after being taken him into jail. He was sent in the jail hospital. But now he is well. Soumen is being held at the prison's quarantine center. However, the jail authorities have kept him under special surveillance.
Jail Super Tayed Uddin Mia of Kushtia District Jail confirmed the matter on Thursday.
According to jail sources, police arrested ASI Soumen from the spot with his own service revolver, magazine and ammunition after the murder of three people on Sunday. On Monday, Soumen made a confessional statement under Section 164 in the court of Kushtia Senior Judicial Magistrate Md Enamul Haque. He was sent to Kushtia District Jail from the court at 4.30 pm on the same day.
District Jail Superintendent Tayed Uddin Mia said the accused Soumen fell ill the day after he was brought to the jail. Suddenly his blood pressure rose. He was immediately admitted to the jail hospital. After receiving treatment, he recovered and was sent to Corona Ward a few hours later.
He added that since the increase in corona identification rates in the district, the rooms reserved for VIP inmates in the jail have been used for quarantine of new convicts. Soumen has also been kept there. There are a few more accused with him. After being kept in quarantine for seven days, he will be kept in another ward again.
According to prison sources, Soumen has been completely silent since he came to the jail. He eats three times a day. However, it is learned that the jail authorities have kept him under special surveillance so that no untoward incident can take place in the jail.
It may be mentioned that ASI Soumen Roy of Fultala Police Station of Khulna shot dead his second wife Asma Khatun, his second son Robin and his wife’s lover Shakil Khan with his service revolver at 11:30 am on Sunday.
