Six people were killed in a head-on collision between two buses at South Surma in Sylhet. At least 15 others were injured. The accident took place at Rashidpur on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway on Friday morning, said South Surma Police Station OC. Initial reports of the accident killed eight people, but police later corrected it. The deceased have been identified as Salman Khan (28) of Jagannathpur, Nurul Amin (5) of Sarail, Brahmanbaria, Sagar Hossain (19) of Wari, Dhaka, Manzur Ali (38) of Dharkha village, Osmaninagar, Sylhet, Jahangir Hossain (30) of the same village, Sylhet Women's Medical College Hospital. Lecturer Dr. Imran Khan Rumel (38) and Shah Kamal (45) of Akhalia area of ​​Sylhet city.

The injured are being treated at Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital, the OC said. According to the locals, the accident took place when the London Express bus was speeding and went in the wrong lane.

The bus crossed the Rashidpur bridge and fell in front of the ENA bus coming from the opposite way. The two buses collided at full speed. One of the surviving passengers of the London Express said, the driver of the vehicle was repeatedly overtaking another vehicle on the way from Dhaka. The driver did not listen to the passengers even after warning them several times.

 Kobad Ali Sarkar, deputy director of Sylhet Fire Service and Civil Defense, said, “The accident took place in the lane of a vehicle heading from Sylhet to Dhaka. The London Express is not supposed to go in that lane.

 Initially, it seems that the accident happened due to forgetfulness of the London Express. The whole thing will be clear in the investigation.” South Surma Police Station OC Monirul said, “There was not much fog this morning. Looking at the position of the vehicle, it seems that the London Express collided head-on with Ener's vehicle while overtaking at high speed. It remains to be seen whether the driver of the London Express fell asleep.”
