'Shishu bokta' Madani consigned to Kashimpur jail

Popular Islamic preacher Rafiqul Islam Madani has been transferred from the Gazipur District Jail to Kashimpur Central Jail-2. 

He was transferred to the jail under the strict guard of RAB and police on Saturday. Gazipur District Jail Superintendent Bazlur Rashid Akhand confirmed the transfer to the media.

According to jail sources, Madani was sent to Kashimpur Central Jail-2 from the district jail at around 9:15am on Saturday. He reached Kashimpur Central Jail-2 at 10am.

Uniformed members from law enforcement agencies as well as various intelligence agencies kept him under surveillance, the jail sources added.

Earlier on Thursday, the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) filed a case against the 27-year-old preacher with the Gachha police station in Gazipur.

The case was filed by RAB Deputy Additional Director Mohammad Khaled.

On Wednesday, RAB arrested Madani on the charges of making anti-state statements and for instigating unrest. He was arrested from his home in Netrokona.

Madani was handed over to the police in Gazipur on Wednesday night.

The contentious “child preacher” is reportedly 26 years old, and he reportedly dislikes being labelled in that manner.
