Shakib getting back the number three position!
Tiger Cricket's poster boy Shakib Al Hasan batted at number three in the 2019 ODI World Cup. Everyone knows the history Shakib created by batting at three. However, Shakib's batting position was changed after the World Cup.
Tamim Iqbal, the then ODI captain, decided Shakib's batting position at number five to prepare Shanto at number three for the 2023 World Cup. However, in the ODI World Cup, Shanta failed completely at the number three position.
The T20 World Cup is knocking at the door. The Tigers' batting order is once again under discussion ahead of this tournament. Because, the top order of the Tigers continues to fail. It was the same picture in the last series against Zimbabwe. So the batting order may change again.
It is known that Shakib can be seen batting in the preferred number three position in the upcoming T20 World Cup. That's what the Tiger team management thinks. Tigers captain Nazmul Hossain Shanto gave such an indication in an interview given to Cricbuzz.
Shanto said it would depend on the conditions and the strength of the opposition, but it could (play Shakib at number three).
Shakib is usually seen batting at number five or six in T20. However, this all-rounder has always done well when batting at number three in the past.
The 37-year-old scored 7 of his 12 T20 fifties batting at number three. In the last Twenty20 World Cup against India, Shakib scored a half-century at number three.
In the last 12 months, the skipper has been batting quietly at the number three position. But the 25-year-old played as an opener in the last T20 World Cup in Australia.
About the batting position of Bangladesh in the World Cup, coach Chandika Hathurusinghe said that none of the batsmen of his team will have any specific batting position in the T20 World Cup.
Apart from Shanta, Liton Das, Tanjid Tamim and Soumya Sarkar have been kept in the squad as top order batters. But Hathurusinghe asked all the players in his team to be ready to bat in any position. He said that the XI will be arranged depending on the condition of the pitch and the importance of the match.
