Shakib announced retirement from Test and T20

Shakib Al Hasan has announced his retirement from Test and T20 cricket. Shakib made this announcement in a press conference on the day before the test against India in Kanpur. Shakib will wear the white shirt while playing the Test series at home against South Africa starting on October 21. He played the last T20 of his career in the T20 World Cup. When asked about his plans for ODI cricket, he said that he will play till next year's Champions Trophy in Pakistan.

Today Shakib was asked about the South Africa Test at home in October. In response to that question, Shakib said about saying goodbye to Test cricket, 'Look, so far I am available. As there are many situations in the country, everything is definitely not up to me. I have discussed this with BCB. They have been told what my plan is. I felt this series and the home series would be my last series, specially in Test cricket.'

Saying that he had spoken with the board president Farooq Ahmed, Shakib added, 'This is how I spoke with Farooq bhai and with the selectors. If there is a chance, if I go to the country, play, then the Mirpur Test will be the last for me. That has been said to everyone on the board. They are trying how to organize beautifully.'

Before returning to the country, Shakib also has the issue of security in mind, 'I want to go and play and feel safe. When it is necessary to come out of the country, I should not have any problem to come out of the country. The board is taking note. Those involved with the issues are watching. They may give me a decision, based on which I can go to the country and play very well, at least I can leave the Test format.'

Is Shakib leaving the test out of trouble or pride? In response to this question, he said, 'It is not taken from hardship or pride. I think this is the right time to move on and make way for new ones to come in.' In response to the same question, Shakib announced his retirement from T20 cricket. With everyone on the board, with the voters, with the president. I also withdrew from T20. For the time being the next series, let new players come, let them be given opportunities.'

Later Shakib can also return to T20 cricket if required by the team. But for now he no longer wants to play T20 Internationals, 'I will continue to play franchise leagues, after six months-a year if BCB feels I have a chance to contribute in T20s, I am performing and fit, we will decide. I can But right now I don't see myself in T20. I want it to be the last Test series against South Africa. You can almost say, I'm seeing my end in two versions.'

Shakib took the decision after talking to everyone concerned, 'I don't think there is any reason for me to play these series. I think newcomers should be given a chance. This is the best chance to see them. If Bangladesh cricket looks towards 2026, then it is good for Bangladesh. We all decided together, everyone agreed.'

Shakib also said that he played his last T20 match for Bangladesh in the T20 World Cup held in USA and West Indies, 'I think I played my last T20 match in the World Cup.'

Shakib also revealed his plans for ODI cricket. He also wants to leave the 50-over game after playing the Champions Trophy,' (ODI retirement with the Champions Trophy?) I hope so. So maybe 9 ODIs.'

When asked to assess his career, Shakib replied with a smile, 'I think I have done reasonably well. i am happy No regrets. Never had any regrets in life. not yet As long as I enjoyed, I played cricket. I feel it is the right time for Bangladesh Cricket and me to take these decisions. The coach, the captain, the selectors, the board—taking decisions in consultation with everyone.'
