Reza Kibria, Nur attacked by Chhatra League men in Tangail


Bangladesh Gono Odhikar Parishad Convener Dr Reza Kibria, its member secretary Md Nurul Haque Nur and some of their followers were attacked allegedly by Chhatra League members in Tangail on Wednesday. 

The incident took place around midday as they arrived at Santosh to pay respect to Maulana Abdul Hamid Khan Bhashani on the 45th anniversary of his death.

Shakiluzzaman, senior joint convener of the parishad, alleged that more than 50 leaders and activists of Chhatra league attacked them chanting slogans when they were close to the mazar. Reza, Nur and some of our followers were injured during this time. 

Meanwhile, Nibir Paul, organizing secretary of Chhatra League’s Maulana Bhasani University of Science and Technology unit, said Dr Reza and VP Nur were chanting slogans against the government and the prime minister. “They attacked us for protesting. 

"Four of our members were injured. I strongly condemn and protest this incident. Chhatra League is always a symbol of peace," he added.

Sarwar Hosen, Tangail additional superintendent of police, said the Chhatra League men had attacked the parishad leaders and activists. A chase and counter chase occurred between the two groups. 

Later, police evacuated the parishad men from the spot.

“Several people were injured during the attack. The situation is now under control,” the police officer said.
