Red carpet rolled out as Nepalese president arrived in Dhaka


Nepal's President Vidya Devi Bhandari has arrived in Dhaka to attend the golden jubilee of Bangladesh's independence and the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

When she arrived at Dhaka's Shahjalal Airport on a Nepal Air flight around 10 am on Monday, she was received by President Abdul Hamid.

This is the first visit of a President of Nepal to Bangladesh. Vidya Devi is accompanied by the country's foreign minister and foreign secretary as well as high-ranking officials.

On the first day of the visit, the President of Nepal will pay homage to the martyrs of the Liberation War by visiting the National Memorial in Savar from the airport.

On the same day, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen will meet her at Hotel Intercontinental.

Bidya Devi Bhandari will join the event as a special guest at the National Parade Ground in the afternoon. President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will also be there.

The President of Nepal will hold a meeting with President Abdul Hamid at Bangabhaban in the evening; Several MoUs will be signed in the presence of the two heads of state.

Later, the President of Nepal will take part in a dinner at Bangabhaban. There is a cultural program before the dinner at the Durbar Hall.

On Tuesday morning, the President of Nepal will visit the Bangabandhu Memorial Museum at No. 32, Dhanmondi. There she will pay homage to the portrait of the Father of the Nation; she also has a program to visit the museum.

In the afternoon, Bidya Devi Bhandari attended the ceremony at the Nepal Embassy in Dhaka. She is scheduled to leave Dhaka at 3:30 pm.

Vidya Devi Bhandari is the second and first woman president of Nepal. Ram Baran Yadav was the first president of the country after the transition from a monarchy to a democratic system of government.

Prior to becoming President in 2015, she served as Vice-Chairperson of the Communist Party of Nepal (UML) and Minister of Defense.

At his invitation, President Abdul Hamid visited Nepal in 2019.

Bangladesh has organized a 10-day program on the theme 'Mujib Chiranton' on the golden jubilee of independence and the birth centenary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Maldives President Ibrahim Mohammed Salih and Sri Lankan Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa have already visited Bangladesh.

Bhutan's Prime Minister Lotte Shering and India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi are also expected to attend the event.
