A 65-year old mother in Rajshahi filed a case under the Maintenance of the Parents Act against his elder on charges of torturing her. Instead of providing help and supports, accused Manik Uddin, 35, allegedly beat his mother Hawa Begum up as she refused to registrar him a piece of land at Bagmara Upazila.
Being unable to bear the physical and mental sufferings, the victim, wife of the late Momin Uddin of Chawk Bausa area in the Upazila, filed a case with Bagha police station against her son, said officer-in-charge Nazrul Islam adding that the police arrested Manik.
According to the case statement, Hawa Begum, a mother of four, lost her husband 15 years ago. She was left with 73 decimals of land in her possession. For several years, Manik had been forcing the victim to register the land for him. On Thursday, he beat Hawa up as she did not agree to register the piece of land for him.
Manik was sent to jail after producing him before a Rajshahi court on Friday, said Bagha OC adding that this is the first time ever a mother filed a case against her son with the police station.
