Rains of Magh came as a blessing for Boro cultivation
The rain of Magh seems to have been a blessing to the farmers of Tarash Raiganj, Ullapara upazila inhabited by Chalanbil. It rained from dawn to dusk in Sirajganj a few days ago and on Thursday. After these two rounds of rains in the month of Magh, the farmers of Sirajganj have come down to the field to plant boro paddy in the agricultural land of Chalanbil area. Although the rains in the month of Magh are a source of concern for farmers in other parts of the country, it is a source of joy for the farmers in Chalon-sur-Saিলne, as the rain water has benefited a lot in irrigation dependent boro cultivation. Due to rains no additional irrigation is required for planting Boro paddy seedlings. There is no extra cost for this. The soil has also softened. That is why seedlings are being planted fast. Workers are also feeling less. Soil fertility is also increasing. This has created an opportunity to increase the yield.
Akkas Ali, a farmer of Baruhas Union of the upazila, said that due to the rains, the cost of irrigation has become economical and the land needs less fertilizer. As the land is fertile, the yield of paddy will also increase. That is why the farmers of this area are engaged in planting saplings. Farmers Rafiqur Islam, Abdul Kalam and Reich Uddin of Lahiri Mohanpur Union of Ullapara Upazila have said similar things. According to the district agriculture office, the target for boro cultivation has been set at 72,500 hectares of land in Ullapara, Tarash and Raiganj upazilas of the district inhabited by Chalanbil.
