Pori Moni out of jail
Film actress Pori Moni was released from jail this morning, four weeks after Rab arrested her. She was handed over to her lawyer and relative at 9:21am at Kashimpur Central Women's Jail in Gazipur, Halima Khatun, senior jail super, told The Daily Star.
Pori Moni came out of jail at 9:36am in a white car and waved at the crowd gathered to see her. Standing through the sunroof of the car, Pori Moni was seen shaking hands with her fans and taking selfies with them.
Yesterday, a Dhaka court, considering her health, age and reputation in film industry, granted ad-interim bail to her in a case filed with Banani Police Station under the Narcotics Control Act.
Judge KM Emrul Kayesh of Metropolitan Sessions Judge's Court issued the bail order upon a bond of Tk 50,000 with two guarantors after a long hearing.
The jail authorities could not release her yesterday as they did not get the bail order in time.
The bail order will be valid until submission of the police report, the judge said in his order.
After her arrest on August 4, the actress was placed on a seven-day remand in three phases.
On August 22, Pori Moni filed a bail petition with a Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge's Court, challenging the lower court's rejection of bail in the case.
