Pori Moni’s costume designer Jimy arrested

The police have arrested actress Pori Moni’s costume designer Junayed Karim Jimy on charges related to drugs, but released director Chayanika Chowdhury. Jimy was taken to the Detective Branch headquarters on Minto Road after his arrest in Gulshan on Friday night, said Harunor Rashid, joint commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s DB.       

“We're preparing a drugs case against him,” said Harunor.

Earlier, Chayanika was picked up from Panthapath and taken to the DB headquarters.

“We’ve released her on condition that she'll come whenever we call her,” said Harunor.

The development came two days after the arrest of Pori Moni in a drugs case.

The director and Jimy accompanied Pori Moni at a media briefing at the latter’s home when the actress in June accused a businessman of trying to rape and murder her at a boating club.

They also accompanied the actress to the DB offices when Pori Moni went there to talk to the police. Police subsequently arrested Nasir Uddin Mahmood, a Dhaka Boat Club member, in a case filed by the actress. He later secured bail from court.

Jimy’s name came up in the case as he alleged he had also been assaulted during the incident at the club. Travel agent Tuhin Siddique Omi, another suspect who was arrested in the rape case, was Jimy's acquaintance and it was Omi who took them to the club.
