Police members asked to be vigilant in case of attack
Leaders and activists of Islamist parties clashed with police in protest of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit. Clashes first broke out in front of the Baitul Mukarram mosque after Friday (March 26th) Friday prayers. Later in the evening, students of Qutubkhali Madrasa in the area blocked the road in Jatrabari area of the capital. As a result, traffic was stopped in Dhaka-Chittagong and Dhaka-Sylhet highways. In this situation, special instructions have been given to the police personnel working in different districts of the country including Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) to be vigilant.
A police source confirmed that special instructions were given from the police headquarters and DMP on Friday night.
According to sources, the DMP's control room has directed the Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCs), Additional Deputy Commissioners of Police (ADCs) and Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACs) to be vigilant.
The directive said attacks on police outposts and boxes at DMP police stations could happen at any time. Therefore, the presence of police members should be increased in these places. In addition, to avoid any untoward incident, the police members should be on high alert on Friday night and Saturday (March 26) morning.
The order will remain in force until further notice.
To keep the capital safe, senior officers have been instructed to be vigilant, including increasing night police patrolling.
An official with the rank of Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADC) of the DMP confirmed the special directive.
The official, who did not want to be named, said the message was sent from the DMP's control room to their own walkie-talkie on Friday night. Senior DMP officers have been directed to remain on the ground. After receiving this message, we have taken appropriate action in this regard.
According to sources, similar instructions have been given to senior officers including SPs working across the country from the police headquarters. Police have been asked to be in a strict position so that no miscreant can gather for sabotage. He also directed to strengthen the security of all police stations and all concerned officers.
In this regard, an official of the Additional Superintendent of Police of Dhaka district said, "We have received instructions from the police headquarters on Friday night." We have already taken steps to avoid any untoward incidents as per the instructions of the police headquarters. '
