People returning to workplace with risk
People have started returning to workplace on the Paturia-Daulatdia route in Manikganj at the risk of Covid. However, as all the ferries are open, the suffering of the passengers has reduced.
The port has been crowded with passengers and vehicles since Sunday morning. However, due to the lack of long-distance vehicles, passengers are suffering to reach the wharf and cross the ferry to work. They are returning with extra fare after breaking down on internal public transport, private cars, microbuses and motorcycles.
On the spot Paturia Ghat was seen, every ferry leaving the ghat was crowded with passengers. There was no hygiene in the ferries. There is no activity of the administration.
Zillur Rahman, deputy general manager of the BIWTC Aricha office, said about a lakh people had gone home through Paturia Ghat in Manikganj. At the end of Eid, they have started returning again.
He said 16 small and large ferries are operating on the Paturia-Daulatdia route to reduce traffic congestion and passenger suffering.
