No cattle market at Aftabnagar as SC upholds HC order

Supreme Court today (June 3) upheld the High Court order to suspend the lease notification for setting up a makeshift cattle market in Dhaka's Aftabnagar on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha.

A four-member Appellate Division bench led by Chief Justice Obaidul Hasan passed the order today.

According to the order, no cattle market will be allowed at Aftabnagar, lawyers informed.

Adv Shah Manzurul Haque and Adv SM Shamim Hossain moved for the writ petitioner.

Lawyers Manzurul Haque and Shamim Hossain said that the Supreme Court upheld the HC order considering Aftabnagar is a pre-planned residential city.

On May 8, an HC bench of Justice Naima Haider and Justice Kazi Zinat Haque suspended the lease notification for setting up makeshift cattle market at Aftabnagar.

As the Aftabnagar is a residential area, the court passed the order. Later, Nurul Islam, the leaseholder, filed an appeal with the Appellate Division challenging the HC order.
