Newly-wed Fahmida dies of cancer
Fahmida Kamal, a cancer patient who tied the knot with her long-time friend Mahmudul Hasan in a hospital at Tk 1 Kabin, has passed away. She breather her last at her residence at the Bakalia area in Chattogram on Monday morning.
Saifuddin Saki, a former official of Chattogram City Corporation (CCC), said her granddaughter died at her home in South Bakalia on Monday morning “after a long battle with cancer”.
It is learned that Fahmida’s long-time friend, who is now her husband, Mahmudul Hasan married her on March 9 at Tk 1 Kabin in Medical Center Hospital in Chattogram city at the consent of both family members.
Fahmida Kamal, a resident of South Bakalia, a daughter of businessman Kamal Uddin and a granddaughter of Saifuddin Saki, a former CCC official, completed her BBA and MBA from Independent University Bangladesh (IUB). Mahmudul Hasan, on other hand, who is a resident of Chakaria in Chattogram, completed his MBA from North South University (NSU).
Fahmida Kamal and Mahmudul Hasan were acquainted from their educational life. At one stage, they fell in love and started dreaming of a new journey. However, when Fahmida learned about her cancer, she was taken to the Evercare Hospital in the capital for advanced treatment and later to the Tata Memorial Hospital in India.
After a long year of treatment there, the doctors informed Fahmida that “there was no chance” for her to survive. But even in this situation, Mahmudul Hasan did not give up his beloved’s hand. Being a shadow, he took a difficult decision at one stage from his side. Everyone was shocked when Mahmudul Hasan gave a marriage proposal to Fahmida.
All the arrangements for the wedding were made in the hospital. Fahmida was wearing a red Benarashi saree and a gold necklace. The groom Hasan was worn Punjabi-pajamas. The two cut the cake together and change the garland.
With this, Fahmida’s dream to become a bride was fulfilled, forgetting about her deadly cancer for a moment. It was as if she wanted to go back to those lost golden days with Hasan. She wanted to live a thousand years with her beloved.
But that dream for survival has ended for Fahmida. After 12 days of marriage, Fahmida left everyone. She died at her home in the Bakalia area of the city on Monday morning.
Although it was learned that Fahmida has zero percent of survival, she was kept at Chattogram Medical Center for some time and was treated, lamented her grandfather Saifuddin Saki, urging all to pray for the departed soul of her granddaughter.
