Nahida nominated for ICC Player of the Month award


Bangladesh women’s team cricketer Nahida Akter was nominated for the ICC Women’s Player of the Month award for the month of November, confirmed ICC in a media release issued on Tuesday.

Nahida was shortlisted alongside Pakistan’s Anam Amin and West Indies’ Hayley Matthews. Nahida took 13 wickets in four Women’s one-day Internationals in November, 11 of which came in the three-match series against Zimbabwe in Zimbabwe and the remaining two came against Pakistan in an ICC Women’s World Cup qualifier match in the same country which Bangladesh won. Nahida, a left-arm spinner, is the first women’s cricketer from Bangladesh to be nominated for the award Earlier this year, Mushfiqur Rahim, Shakib Al Hasan and Nasum Ahmed were nominated in the men’s category and Mushfiq and Shakib also won the award. 

In the men’s category, Pakistan’s Abid Ali got nominated for his performance against Bangladesh in the ongoing Test series and he will be competing against New Zealand’s Tim Southee and Australia’s David Warner for the prize. The winners will be decided by the ICC Voting Academy and the fans registered on the ICC website. The ICC Voting Academy, which comprises of well-known journalists, former players, broadcasters and members of the ICC Hall of Fame, hold a 90 per cent share of the vote. The winners are to be announced on December 13.
