Mosque committee apologizes for ban on Jharna’s family


Jharna’s family is ban form socity by local mosque committee for her travel to America for higher education. The incident drew the attention of local media and human rights activists. Jharna's family complained to the Upazila Nirbahi Officer about this. The Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) held a meeting with the members of the local mosque committee in the wake of the allegations. At the end of the meeting, the mosque committee admitted their mistake and apologized.

The meeting was held at Bhatera Union Parishad office of Kulaura upazila on Tuesday night. The meeting was attended by UNO ATM Farhad Chowdhury, Kulaura Police Station OC Binoy Bhushan Dev, local UP chairman Syed Nazrul Islam, Jharna Chowdhury's father Abdul Hai Chowdhury and Krishnapur village mosque president Makhan Mia and secretary Amin Mia.

After the meeting, UNO said, `I was sitting with the two sides. The president and secretary of the mosque committee were present there. They said they are older people, so can't run the internet. It is rumored in the area that Jharna has married a Hindu boy. So he called his father the president and editor of the mosque, but since he did not come, it was decided to expel Jharna's family’.

UNO added, `Today, they have apologized to Jharna's father for misunderstanding. He also promised not to do anything like that in future. Jharna's family is also happy, they have written that they are happy now. Note that Jharna Chowdhury from Krishnapur village migrated to America for higher education on 26th December’.
