Moon sighted, Eid-ul-Azha on June 17


The moon of the month of Zilhaj was seen in the sky of Bangladesh on Friday evening. The holy Eid-ul-Azha or the Eid of Sacrifice will be celebrated in the country on June 17 (Monday).

The moon was sighted in Itakumari Union of Pirgacha Upazila of Rangpur district on Friday (June 7) evening. Rangpur Deputy Commissioner (DC) Mohammad Mobashwer Hasan told  this information.

He said, we have come to know that the moon has been seen in Itakumari Union of Pirgacha, Rangpur. Those who are there from our Islamic Foundation also saw it. A list of names of those who have seen is coming to me. I will actually inform the National Moon Sighting Committee about the list of names.

In a while, the National Moon Sighting Committee will officially announce the news of the moon sighting and the date of Eid-ul-Azha celebration at the meeting room of the Islamic Foundation in Baitul Mukarram of the capital. It will be presided over by the Minister of Religion. Faridul Haque Khan.

Minister of Religion Md. Faridul Haque Khan told reporters that we have received reports of sighting of the moon at a place and we are verifying it. You will be notified after verification.
