Lockdown extended in Chapainawabganj

The ongoing lockdown in Chapainawabganj has been extended for another week - till 7 June - to curb the spread of Covid-19 in the district.

"The lockdown will not affect the seasonal mango trade," District Administrator Monzurul Hafiz said today.

Chapainawabganj Civil Surgeon Dr Zahid Nazrul Chowdhury said, "The Sadar hospital is running low on oxygen. We received 50 per cent of the oxygen we asked for. The hospital has the capacity to provide oxygen to 20 patients at a time. All 20 beds in the Covid ward is full. We are unable to provide oxygen to the 40 patients, who are under treatment in the isolation ward."

"An oxygen plant has been established, but it will be operational after 3-4 days," the civil surgeon added.

The coronavirus infection rate in Chapainawabganj was 41.43% yesterday.

However, the civil surgeon mentioned that the rate is going down.

Earlier, authorities imposed a strict lockdown in Chapainawabganj for seven days. The Indian variant of Covid-19 has been detected in seven patients in the district. The new cases have created a fresh concern in the region.
