Launch services remain suspended on Daulatdia-Paturia route

Launch services remained suspended on the Daulatdia-Paturia route to prevent accidents during bad weather in the Padma River as the cyclone Yaas made landfall in eastern Indian state Odisha on Wednesday.

The Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) had suspended launch operations on this route on Tuesday afternoon.

As a result, commuters have been availing the ferry services which were somewhat disrupted due to strong currents in the Padma River.

Khorshed Alam, assistant manager (commerce) of Daulatdia Ghat, BIWTC, said that the weather was a bit hostile but the cyclone had not yet affected ferry service on this route.

“Ferry operation is normal and there aren’t any vehicles waiting to cross the river. At present 15 small and big ferries are plying on this route,” he added.
