Last homage to Moudud Ahmed


People from all sectors have paid homage to BNP standing committee member and former minister Moudud Ahmed. Moudud Ahmed's body was laid to rest at the central Shaheed Minar at around 9:15 am on Friday.


Later, various political parties including BNP, Nagarik Oikya, Jatiya Ganatantrik Party (Jagpa), NDP and common people paid homage to Moudud Ahmed.

After paying respects, BNP standing committee member Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain said Moudud Ahmed had been a struggling leader all his life. He fought for democracy. Struggled for the realization of human rights. He has contributed for the welfare of the country and the nation from different governments at different times.

Khandaker Musharraf said, "Today we lost a prominent politician. The nation lost a veteran politician. The Bangladesh Nationalist Party lost a guardian. '

When asked about the absence of Awami League central leaders in paying homage at the Shaheed Minar, Tawfiq-e-Ilahi Chowdhury, the PM's energy adviser and Moudud Ahmed's brother, said, "It is unfortunate." There can be differences of opinion in politics. But it should not be like that. '

Public Health Center Trustee and National Unity Front leader Jafrullah Chowdhury said, ‘The name of Moudud Ahmed cannot be omitted when it comes to writing the history of the real liberation war, the context of the expatriate government during the liberation war. We lost a hero.'

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Vice Chairman Major General (retd) Hafizuddin Ahmed, Advisor to the Chairperson Abdus Salam, BNP Leader Aman Ullah Aman, President Habibur Rahman, Joint Secretary General Khairul Kabir Kopar paid their respects to Moudud Ahmed at the Central Shaheed Minar. Lutfar Rahman, BNP publicity secretary Shahid Uddin Chowdhury, executive committee member Nazim Uddin Alam, Muktijoddha Dal president Ishtiaq Aziz, general secretary Sadek Khan, Jatiya Party chairman Mostafa Jamal Haider and others.

Moudud Ahmed's janaza was held at the Supreme Court premises at around 10:15 am after paying homage at the Shaheed Minar. After the Janaza, Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain, Justice Nuruzzaman, Justice Syed Ziaul Karim, Justice Miftah Uddin Chowdhury, Justice SM Moniruzzaman, Fisheries and Livestock Minister Sham Rezaul Karim and two former general secretaries of the Supreme Court Bar Association paid their respects to Moudud Ahmed. Besides, among the BNP leaders, party vice chairman and former home minister Altaf Hossain Chowdhury, vice chairman Shahjahan Omar and former general secretary of the Supreme Court Bar Association Mahbub Uddin paid their respects there.

Moudud Ahmed was also honored with flowers on behalf of various organizations. Among them, the Nationalist Lawyers Association Forum, Moudud Ahmed and Associates, Law Reporters Forum and Feni-Noakhali Lawyers Forum paid their respects.


Another janaza of Moudud Ahmed was held in front of the BNP central office in Naya Paltan around 11am today. There was also a tribute from the team. BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and other party leaders took part in the janaza. At the end of Janaza, Moudud Ahmed's coffin was covered with party flag. Later, BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam paid tribute to party chairperson Khaleda Zia and acting chairperson Tarique Rahman with flowers. Later, other leaders of the party and leaders of BNP affiliates paid homage to the body of the leader with flowers.

Moudud Ahmed's body will be taken from the BNP's central office in Naya Paltan to his village home in Manikpur in Noakhali's Kompaniganj upazila. Another janaza will be held at Kabirhat Degree College ground in Noakhali at 2.30 pm. Another janaza will be held at Basurhat Kompaniganj Government Mujib College ground at 4 pm.

Politician Moudud Ahmed passed away in Singapore on Tuesday at 6.30 pm Bangladesh time. He was 81 years old. His body arrived in the country on Thursday afternoon.
