Language activist Ahmed Rafiq admitted to the hospital
Ahmed Rafiq, a language activist, essayist, and Rabindranath
researcher, has been admitted to the hospital. He is being treated at a private
hospital (Greenlife) in the capital's Green Road. He fell from the bed on
Thursday night and sustained injuries to his waist and head.
Ismail Saadi, an avid teacher of Ahmed Rafiq, took him to the hospital. Ismail Saadi told Prothom Alo that he fell down while getting out of bed to go to the bathroom around 1.30 pm on Thursday. His head was torn. The bones of the spine have also moved. Doctors said that surgery may be required.
Ismail Saadi said the problem started in February. As he (Ahmad Rafiq) is a language activist, he has spoken and given interviews in different media every day before 21st February. He became very ill. He added that Ahmed Rafique's illness started on February 25. There was a lot of pain in the waist, it was difficult to get up and sit down. He was taking the medications as per the doctor's advice as he could not see well with his eyes, he was also using the medicines excessively. This causes side effects. Sometimes one day he could not recognize anyone. Then this happened.
Language activist Ahmed Rafiq has no wife or children. The brothers among the relatives all died. There is a nephew. He lives in the United States.
