Kolkata's Edu Minister to visit Dhaka at ‘Mayar Jonjal’ premiere
Celebrated actress Aupee Karim and noted Indian actor Ritwick Chakraborty starrer film `Mayar Jonjal’ (Debris of Desire) has garnered appreciation across the globe upon screening in international platforms.
Directed by Indian filmmaker Indranil Roychowdhury, the Bangladesh-India joint production is now set to premiere in Bangladesh at the 20th Dhaka International Film Festival (DIFF) on January 22, at Central Library.
Two actors of the film, Ritwick Chakraborty and Bratya Basu, who is also Kolkata's Education Minister, along with the director, will attend the premiere. Producer of `Mayar Jonjal’ Josim Ahmed shares that the film will be released in Bangladesh and India on the same day.
Initiated by Rainbow Film Association, the 20th DIFF will kick off on January 15 with 220 selected films from 70 countries across the globe. `Mayar Jonjal’ will be competing with 21 other films in the Asian Competition category at the festival. The event will conclude on January 23.
The film also features Shohel Rana and Chandreyee Ghosh from Kolkata among others. According to Josim Ahmed, the film is planned to be released after the premiere at the DIFF.
`Mayar Jonjal’ first held its world premiere at the 23rd Shanghai International Film Festival, in the official selection round of Asian New Talent Award. It was officially selected for screening at the Moscow International Film Festival (MIFF).
The film has won the Jury Award for Feature Film out of the 8 films from the official selection in the 21st Asiatica Film Festival (Asiatica - Encounters with Asian Cinema), in Italy and the Best South Asian Feature Film award in the Arthouse Asia Film Festival, held in Kolkata.
