Khuli portrays genocide

A Liberation War-based play titled Khuli was staged in the killing ground in Panir Tank area, Tangail on November 20, said a press release.

Zila Shilpakala Academy Tangail Repertory Natyadal staged the play as part of Ganahatyar Paribesh Theare, which has been organised by Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy marking the 50th anniversary of Bangladesh’s independence. Theatre troupes will stage plays in 65 killing grounds in 64 districts of the country as part of the initiative to raise awareness about genocides committed by Pakistani occupation forces during the Liberation War in 1971.

Khuli is written by Tanvir Ahmed Sydney and directed by Mir Mehbub Alam Nahid. During the Liberation War in 1971, the Pakistani occupation forces tortured freedom fighters and people of Tangail who supported the Liberation War at the Tangail Circuit House. The Pakistani occupation forces and their local collaborators killed the captives and dumped their bodies in the Panir Tank killing ground.

‘On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of Bangladesh’s independence, Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy is organising theatre shows in all the districts of the country under the initiative titled Ganahatyar Paribesh Theatre. I feel lucky to have been given the opportunity of directing the theatre production of Zila Shilpakala Academy Tangail,’ said Mir Mehbub Alam Nahid.
