JS passes supplementary budget of Tk 13,987.27 crore for FY 2020-21
The Jatiya Sangsad on Monday passed the supplementary budget of Taka 13,987.27 crore for the fiscal 2020-21 to meet the increased expenditure under different ministries and divisions.
Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal placed the supplementary budget in the House on June 3 along with the national budget. On Monday, he moved it in the House following general discussion on the supplementary budget.
Different ministries, divisions and Institutions sought the additional amount under 19 demands for grant. As many as 190 cut-motions were moved by 11 parliament members.
Discussions were held on two cut-motions –on Financial Institutions Division and Health Services Division.
These cut motions were brought by BNP lawmakers HarunurRashid, Rumeen Farhana, Mosharraf Hossain, Jatiya Party lawmakers Fakhrul Imam, Begum Raushan Ara Mannan,KaziFeroz Rashid, Barrister Shamim Haider Patwary,LiaquatHossain Khoka, Mohammad Mujibul HaqueChunnu,Gonoforum lawmaker Mukabbir Khan and Independent lawmaker Rezaul Karim Bablu.
However, those cut-motions were rejected by voice votes.
According to budget document, an amount of Taka 5,68,000crore were allocated in favour of 62 ministries and divisions for the 2020-21 fiscal.
But in the supplementary budget, allocations for 19 ministries and divisions have been increased to Taka 13,987.27 crorewhile Taka 42,481.87 crore reduced for 43ministries and divisions.
As a result, the budget allocations for these ministries and divisions got reduced of Taka 29,017 crore and the total allocation now stands at Taka 5,38,983 crore
The Local Government Division got the highest allocation of Taka 2890.45 crore while the Rural Development and Cooperatives Division the lowest Taka 1.40 crore .
As per the supplementary budget allocation, Prime Minister’s Office got Taka 482.03 crore while Cabinet Division Taka 9.70 crore, Election Commission Secretariat Taka 168.42 crore, Financial Institutions Division Taka 205.59 crore, Planning Division Taka 242.75 crore, Implementation Monitoring and Evaluation Division Taka 6.74 crore, Statistics and Information Management Division Taka 142.84 crore, Primary and Mass Education Ministry Taka 1,005.15 crore, Health Services Divisions Taka 2,850.48 crore, Housing and Public Works Ministry Taka 489.37 crore, Religious Affairs Ministry Taka 384.51 crore, Industries Ministry 565.37 crore, Textile and Jute Ministry Taka 1,905.68 crore, Fisheries and Livestock Ministry Taka 332.78 crore, Water Resources Ministry Taka 1,039.99 crore, Road Transport and Highway Division Taka 676.62 crore and Shipping Ministry got Taka 676.66 crore.
Earlier, treasury and opposition lawmakers discussed on the supplementary budget of 2020-21 on the outset of the session.
Treasury bench lawmaker Amir Hossen Amu of Jhalokati-2, Deputy leader of the opposition Golam Mohammad QuaderofLalmonirhat-3, participated in the supplementary budget discussion.
