Journalist Bijan killed in road accident
Bijan Krishna Roy Chandan, 54, a member of Netrokona's Durgapur Press Club, was killed in a road accident while returning home from Mymensingh after work.
The accident was reported on Saturday afternoon when a truck and CNG collided head-on.
The deceased was identified as Bijan Krishna Roy, son of late Bisweshwar Roy of Bagichapara area of Durgapur municipality.
According to the relatives of the deceased and local sources, on the way home after the Mymensingh Divisional Press Club meeting, the CNG collided head-on with a speeding truck coming from the opposite direction when it reached Gachtala area of Tarakanda Upazila on the Mymensingh-Netrokona highway. Journalist Chandan was killed on the spot.
Confirming the incident, Nayan Das, in-charge of Shyamganj Highway Police Outpost, told Jugantar that the truck and CNG involved in the accident have already been seized but the truck and CNG drivers are still at large. As there was no complaint about this, the body was handed over to the relatives of journalist Bijan Krishna Roy after the inquest.
When the body of Bijan Krishna Roy was brought to the Durgapur Press Club premises from the police outpost at 9 pm, the press club leaders paid their last respects. On behalf of Durgapur Upazila Nirbahi Officer Rajib-ul-Ahsan, Assistant Commissioner (Land) Ruel Sangma, Upazila Administrative Officer Subal Ranchan Kar, Upazila Awami League Organizing Secretary Harun Palash, OC Durgapur Thana Shah Nur-e Alam, Durgapur Banik Samiti, Upazila Puja Udjapan Parishad, Hindu Buddhist Christian Unity Parishad paid their last respects. On his sudden death, Durgapur Press Club has declared 3 days of mourning, including a mourning rally, holding of black badges and black flags. His body was cremated at around 2 pm at his village home in Kerankhala. He is survived by his wife, 1 daughter, and 1 son.
